04/11/21 Briefing

The S&P 500 futures trade 13 points, or 0.3%, above fair value in fresh record territory, as the market continues benefit from a reluctance of selling interest and the view that interest rates will remain low for the near future. The mega-caps are also providing influential support with modest gains.

Fed Chair Powell reinforced this interest-rate view in his post-FOMC press conference yesterday, saying that it's not yet time to focus on rate hikes since maximum employment might not be reached until mid-2022. On a related note, the Bank of England will release its policy decision at 8:00 a.m. ET.

Earnings reports, meanwhile, remain in focus. Qualcomm (QCOM 151.03, +12.53, +9.1%) and Booking Holdings (BKNG 2548.00, +112.67, +4.6%) are providing solid support for the Nasdaq 100 futures following their results and/or guidance, although Moderna (MRNA 309.12, -36.80, -10.6%) is mitigating their influence with disappointing results and a 10.6% decline.

On the data front, investors will receive weekly Initial Claims (Briefing.comconsensus 277,000), preliminary Q3 Productivity (Briefing.comconsensus -1.5%) and Unit Labor Costs (Briefing.comconsensus 5.8%), and the Trade Balance for September (Briefing.comconsensus -$74.8) at 8:30 a.m. ET.

U.S. Treasuries trade little changed. The 2-yr yield is down one basis point to 0.46%, and the 10-yr yield is down one basis point to 1.57%. The U.S. Dollar Index is up 0.4% to 94.23. WTI crude futures are up 2.1%, or $1.73, to $82.59/bbl in front of an OPEC+ production decision.
